My client focus is teens and adults and I am particularly passionate about helping individuals with immigrant or diaspora experiences.

Do you ever find yourself reacting to something and wondering, “where did that come from?” or thinking, “that doesn’t feel like me?”. As humans, we are like sponges absorbing the energy, beliefs, and patterns of those around us. We carry experiences, passed down through generations and hold on to things that no longer align with the life we want to live. In my work, I collaborate with clients to create a therapeutic experience that reflects their unique values, culture, and goals. I draw from multiple approaches to ensure that your healing journey feels integrated with all aspects of your life, not separate from it. My goal is to provide a mindful, supportive space where you can slow down, reflect on what is working and what isn’t. I will teach you to use tools and cultivate practices that genuinely feel right for you, no matter what life brings. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor who holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Family Studies from the University of British Columbia and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I have 11 years of experience working with individuals from a variety of populations in different community settings. I have been a part of the Three Sisters Counselling team for the past 3 years! The therapeutic methodologies I use incorporate approaches from CBT, DBT, Mindfulness and Somatic Therapy. The Issues I am passionate about treating include anxiety, depression, trauma, adjustment concerns, relationship issues (familial, romantic and platonic), and stress management, to name a few.

My Favourite quotation!: “Rarely, if ever, are any of us healed in isolation. Healing is an act of communion.” - Bell Hooks

ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS

My Client focus is in treating adults and couples.

One of the most significant challenges many people face is the profound feeling of being stuck and hopeless around the possibility of change. Isolation and shame, coupled with a lack of effective coping tools, often leads to a passive acceptance of their current circumstances, hindering their ability to respond to life’s challenges.

To address this, I use a client-centred approach to build a strong collaborative alliance that respects each person’s unique values, culture, and goals. By fostering an understanding of oneself, each individual can be empowered to make healthy forward-moving choices, while leveraging their existing strengths toward transformative change.

Ultimately, the goal of my work is to collaborate with you to cultivate self-compassion, patience, and resilience. I strive to ensure that you feel seen and supported as you learn and utilize tools that can be integrated into your individual healing journey. No  matter what life throws your way, my goal is to give you the tools so that you can respond effectively and build faith in your own personal capacity to thrive.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from Simon Fraser University, and a Master’s in Counselling Psychology from Trinity Western University.

My experience includes over 25 years providing counselling services to individuals, couples, families, and groups across community-based, health authority, private practice, and government-funded settings.

I work with a diverse range of therapeutic modalities that includes Solution Focused therapy, CBT, DBT, Motivational interviewing, and more.  I am very practical and change-focused and place a strong emphasis on building therapeutic alliance, supporting client safety, and fostering sustainable change.

The issues I treat include, but are not limited to, gender /sexual identity, Mood Disorders, Anxiety, Seperation/Divorce, Grief/loss, Life challenges, Coping skill development, Process and substance addictions

My favourite Quotation:  “Luck favors the well prepared”- Edna Mode

What brings me a sense of ease?

I feel the most grounded when I am near the water, in nature, have the sun on my face, and have some time to connect with myself.

A Little About Me!

I was born and raised in Alberta. My passion for travel and different cultures began in high school when my family travelled North America for a year by motorhome. I moved from the prairies in 1989 to beautiful British Columbia to pursue a softball scholarship at SFU and was spoiled by the lush forests, drizzly weather, and the magnificent ocean. After graduating from my first degree I spent a year cycling through Europe and Africa.

I am very social and am always looking for the next adventure. There is not a project that I don’t like to take on and master. My family is a huge source of strength and support for me, have recently become a grandmother, and am loving every minute of it.

I am currently accepting new clients! My client focus is working with adults only for individual therapy.

The problem I most frequently see is that clients often struggle with, simply, starting therapy. They find the process to be intimating and overwhelming. It is the reason I strive to create a safe space for all clients, where they can feel comfortable to be themselves in therapy and open up to share easily. I have observed time and time again that clients who connect well with their therapist tend to get more out of the experience, trusting the process and the work involved. This ultimately leads to improved mental health and better outcomes in their lives! I graduated from the University of Ottawa with an Honours degree in Arts. I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology degree from Yorkville University in New Brunswick, and have over 30 years of clinical and professional experience working with clients. My work experience is vast in that it includes working in hospitals providing support to pediatric patients and their families, In safe-house/second-stage and third-stage transition homes supporting survivors of domestic violence, and in university counselling centres providing oversight of the centre and counselling support to both undergrad and graduate populations.

I have significant experience working in Indigenous health organizations with time spent in the North providing facilitation and learning in collaboration with Health Canada. I have also been a teacher of counselling to adult learners, as well as have facilitated groups for grief/loss.

I have extensive experience in victim services with the Police department, counselling victims of trauma and assault, supporting families impacted by suicide or sudden death, and in providing support through critical incident and stress management programs, Specifically, I deliver psychological first aid through BC’s disaster psychosocial program, and supervise large networks of clinicians (staff and contractors) in a wide range of EFAP programs. My professional interests are in supporting people dealing with grief and loss, trauma, family conflict, interpersonal relationships, life changes, anxiety, depression, stress management issues, and return to work programs. I utilize evidence-based approaches such as Mindfulness-CBT, DBT, Family Systems, Solution-Focused/Brief Therapy as well as Holistic and whole-system approaches to improving health.

A little bit about me! I have a love of history and am perpetually curious about various cultures. This curiosity makes me an avid traveler & world explorer.

Lisa A. Butcher, MACP, RCC, CCC, CCS, BPEH, RT Founder and CEO, Three Sisters Counselling Registered Clinical Counsellor #16843 Canadian Clinical Supervisor, CCS designation

My client focus in my clinical practice includes treating First Responders, Physicians, RNs, RTs, Adults, Couples and Teens. I have a professional subspecialty in counselling First Responders and their families and am a former First Responder for 18 years in both Ontario and BC.

From a clinical supervision perspective I am formalliy trained in high conflict family de-escalation, family breakdown and the law, as well as family separation counselling.

My observation as a therapist is that people struggle to reconcile how things are with how they had hoped they would be. I believe this contributes to people feeling stuck. They find themselves caught between what they wanted their life to look like and what it does look like and they aren’t sure what to do about it. I tend to be a solution-focused counsellor who strives to help people re-define their experiences in life. It is definitely important to understand why we feel the way we do, but it is equally important to understand what keeps us from being able to move through those feelings. I enjoy working with people to help them re-define what it means to be successful, happy, and capable. I teach people how to utilize what they have, to work towards what they want. The ultimate goal of my work with clients is to give them tools to empower them to be able to make impactful changes in their own lives. This empowerment comes from within as I teach them to have self-compassion, the patience to persevere, and the foundational blocks of resilience. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and hold a Bachelor of Health and Physical Education from the University of Toronto, a post-graduate degree in Applied Health Science with a specialty in Respiratory Therapy from the Michener Institute of Applied Health Science in Toronto, and a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I have two decades of experience working with clients and their families in supporting their mental and physical health. In 2019 I founded Three Sisters Counselling, which is a multi-disciplinary mental health clinic that now operates in Vancouver and Kelowna BC. I am a frequent guest speaker on the topic of Mental Health in the workplace and have presented over 250 talks to private and public corporations and institutions in North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia. My areas of focus include First Responder and frontline trauma, anxiety, depression, Post-traumatic stress disorder, Relationship issues, Communication issues, Parenting, Fertility, Perinatal and Post-Partum struggles, Return to Work support, Chronic Pain, CISD and more.

Therapeutic Modalities: I am formally trained in CBT, EMDR, and DBT. I also draw from aspects of narrative therapy, mindfulness CBT, attachment theory, and guided imagery in my practice.

A little bit about me! I am an extrovert who is profoundly interested in knowing who people are and how their experiences have shaped them. I am a mother of three girls and they are the core of who I am and everything I do. I enjoy the smell of ocean air, downhill skiing, travelling, and spending time with the love of my life and our extended family on both coasts of Canada.

Favourite Quotation: “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, nor did I wish to practice resignation. I wanted to live deep, cut a broad swath, and drive life into a corner” –Henry David Thoreau
